Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will already know I have agreed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2011. For those of you who know me well this will be quite a challenge. I do very little exercise currently, using the age old excuse about lack of time. But in deciding to undertake this challenge I will make all the efforts necessary, not only to be physically prepared, but also to raise as much money as I can for the charity.
It is the charity that has inspired me to attempt this trek, having been to a few of their social events and hearing of the good work they do. It was at one of these events after enjoying a glass of wine (or two!!) that I first put my name forward. The next morning, after the wine had worn off and I reflected on what I had done I was still just as keen.
I would like to tell you a little about the charity, and would urge you to visit their website to find out some more (www.coco.org.uk)
COCO is a registered children’s charity working on closely monitored education and healthcare initiatives that make a big difference to the lives of children living in poverty throughout the developing world. It was founded in 2000 and has to date raised £1.7m, helping to fund children’s projects in developing countries. They fund small projects that encourage community involvement and capacity building and projects that represent an investment in and a commitment to brighter futures for children.
COCO's Vision - To protect and enrich the lives of vulnerable children through poverty reduction, education and improved health.
COCO's Motivation - 1 billion children worldwide live in poverty and an estimated 18 million people, mostly women and children, die due to poverty-related causes each year.
COCO's Belief - To assist orphans and vulnerable children regardless of race, religion or gender. They believe that all children are entitled to healthcare and education, regardless of the lives they are born into.
COCO's Promise - As a small charity they aim to direct resources effectively to support projects that are needs centred, efficient and sustainable. Transparency and accountability, to both their recipients and donors, are regarded as paramount to the success of the organisation.
