Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

28-30/08/10 Last training rides. Three in a row. Feeling well prepared but we shall see.

31/08/10 Full bike service after 1200 miles and then courier comes to take bike to Cornwall. No turning back now.

04/09/2010 Train to Penzance and met up with the group. Checked over the bike and gave it a test ride after reassembly.

05/09/10 The obligatory photo stop and then off in the mist and rain. My training has been a great help over the hilly terrain. Lovely B&B on first night.

06/09/10 What a day! Constant rain from Cornwall into Devon. 50+ miles and 5000ft of ascent. Soaked including mobile so will try to dry it out overnight!

07/09/10 This is a bit more like it. Despite another 52m & 5000ft of ascent it's mostly sunny as we cross Dartmoor to Tiverton.

Have been incommunicado after phone still waterlogged!

10/09/10 Reached Weobley (Hereford) having crossed Severn bridge into Wales yesterday via Chepstow today. Now following Welsh border North.

11/09/10 Joined by Ian my husband on undulating 55m stage into leafy Shropshire and also meet up with my sister and her family. Have now done a whole week.

12/09/10 A bit weary yesterday but am really getting into the riding, reaching Acton Bridge (Cheshire) in good time for us all to go Italian & have huge bowls of well deserved pasta.

13-15/09/10 Passed through Northern England in a blur of unhelpful northerly winds, rain and sunshine. Beautiful scenery, red squirrels, ley lines, and seemingly never ending climbs.

16/09/10 Crossed into Scotland on an arduous 69m (65m planned + 4m detour-mistake) to Moffat and the dream of a well deserved rest day. Ian there to meet me.

17/09/10 Rest day! Had big plans for expeditions to local sites of interest but too much inertia and need for sleep. So spent day tuning bike, eating and wallking around beautiful Borders town of Moffat. After only one full day have seen Haggis in several unique menu combinations! (Pizza, Indian, Gourmet, etc) How many more to look forward to?

18/09/10 Left Ian and got back in the saddle. Reached the southern tip of Glasgow against head wind (perversely now from West). Overtaken by fellow cyclist doing unsupported LEJoG carrying own luggage and doing 80+m/day, so mustn't grumble.

19-24/09/10 Passed north through Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Loch Awe and Fort William, across many hills and showers. Plenty of red deer, flying boats and the aptly named "Rest & Be Thankful" mountain pass. After that climb, we were! Onwards to Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness and then north again through truly deserted highland scenery. Bleak but beautiful.

After a particularly heavy downpour, sought sanctuary in the Cask Inn where our gloves had to be dried in the oven.

Soaked to the skin, for a week or more I was quite ill on the penultimate night on the road. With fellow cyclists' help and encouragement made it through the last two days (not sure how?) along north coast including a detour to Dunnet Haed and a view of the Orkneys to the north. Obligatory photo (see gallery).

Now at home with family, it seems like a dream. Thanks to all of you for the fantastic support you have given and for your generaous sponsorship. It means a lot to me and the charity. N.
