British 10K London Run 2009 · 12 July 2009 ·

Garden House Hospice Care offers care and support to patients and their families. As a registered charity the hospice is dependent on donations so hospice care can be offered through in-patient admissions, day hospice, hospice at home, out-patients clinics and the family support team.

Story

As most of you will know, last year Rog and I ran a 10k in Sheffield one week before our wedding for the MND Association in memory of my mum who died in Nov 2006.

This time we have decided to go closer to home with the run and the charity! The Letchworth Garden Hospice provides support and councelling to those with terminal illnesses, and their families.

My Dad says -

'My wife Dee, Nicola’s mother, suffered from Motor Neuron Disease sadly the progress of the disease meant that she was unable to benefit from the services provided by the hospice. However after her untimely death I was offered bereavement counselling. Unaware what this entailed I accepted. I attended individual counselling sessions first weekly, then monthly over a period of twelve months following ’s death. These sessions were invaluable and provided me with the determination to build a new life built on the firm foundations of the old.

I cannot emphasise enough my thanks to the team at the hospice, many of whom are volunteers, who every day offer support to people like me and many far less fortunate.'

Please give generously to this local hospice who work so hard in the community to improve the lives of all people suffering directly or indirectly with terminal illness.

Rog and I will try our hardest to get the best time we can - assuming its not 35 degrees on the day!!

Many thanks. Rog and Nic xx
