Mount Everest Base Camp Trek 2020 · 20 February 2020

No parent expects to live longer than their child, but for many of the families we support, this is a reality. Julia's House, the Dorset & Wiltshire Children's Hospice charity provides frequent respite care for children and support for their families at home, in the community and at our hospice.

Story

Some of you who know me are already aware that in October
2018 I undertook an epic trek through the Himalayas in support of the Autistic Society. The huge generosity of friends, family and work colleagues made it possible to raise over £800. Following this trek however, the bug hit and another challenge was sure to tempt me.

Well it did and after only a few weeks on returning from
Nepal, I decided Everest Base Camp had to be done. So, with just 8 months to get myself prepared, the training has started. But what is most important and the main reason for undertaking this challenge is an opportunity to raise a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause, this is why you are reading this now.

There are so many charities to choose from, some larger who
receive £000's every year through government grants, lottery and amazing people donating to them. In addition to the Autistic Society, I have raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society, all such important charities. But this time for me, I wanted to support one of the smaller local charities and my choice is the amazing Julia's House who have recently opened a centre in Devizes where I live.

I have 2 beautiful girls who are now 19 and 22 and achieving
great things in life and we are looking forward to the future when they can start families of their own. I think back to the fun we have had when they were little, the places we have visited around the world and the laughs we have had. But for some families who have children with life limiting illnesses, the opportunity to look forward to a future like this or experience things that many of us take for granted, is far less certain. I cannot imagine the effect it must have on a young family who have children that need constant care or a life that is being tragically cut short.

So, what better way to help these families than a valuable
community charity like Julia's House, which can support the parents and siblings of ill children, as well as helping provide the best quality of life that is possible for the children themselves. Charities like this can only exist and provide the quality of care needed through the sheer dedication of its staff, but moreover through the generosity of donations.

I am therefore very proud to be raising money for such a valuable and worthy cause. Please please do give generously. I may badger you to donate, and I apologise for this, but think what a wonderful life you can bring to these families with just a donation of £5,£10 or £20 or even more I don't mind. Thank you, thank you,
thank you!!
