Bowel Cancer West wants to improve survival rates of people with bowel cancer in the south west of England. Currently the disease has a dangerously low profile, but the charity is fighting to change that.

It funds research at the country’s top medical universities; it runs awareness campaigns about bowel cancer symptoms and how to get tested; and it helps train healthcare professionals. In 2021/22 it wants to help offer care and support to patients and their families after bowel cancer diagnosis. It ensures every pound raised is invested effectively to put the brakes on the UK's second-biggest cancer killer.

This year I shall be sailing with the CEO of Bowel Cancer West - Jon Gripton whom we had the pleasure of sailing with last year along with Cllr Terri Beer the former Lord Mayor of Plymouth.
