Kicking Cancer down the Road

nigel watson is raising money for Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People

Nigel's 5 Big Runs · 24 September 2021

Cancer in children & young people (aged 0–24) is different to cancer in adults – from the types of cancer, to the impact of treatment & the long-term side effects survivors often experience. Through research we’re determined to overcome some of the different challenges these cancers present.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Can you help me MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

If you have time, please could I ask you to take 5 minutes to read my post.

The last couple of years has been a difficult time for many of us through the global pandemic and each of us will have had our own difficult moments throughout it.

As most of you are aware after treatment I am still living with for Prostate Cancer, and we are now looking for where the condition has spread to. I feel I am extremely lucky to still have a great quality of life, and more fortunate than many youngsters who have their whole lives in front of them following a cancer diagnosis.  The pandemic also saw me say farewell to 1 incredibly inspirational running friend to Breast Cancer, 2 friends to suicide, and 1 with Brain Cancer. This hit me hard realising not all issues are visible ones, and how little we know of the battle’s others are facing.

To show support for those, like my friends, who are coping with these issues, I am putting myself through my hardest ever physical and mental challenge, where I am hopeful, I can raise funds for both Cancer Research and Mind, …. and the magnitude of that challenge is starting to feel real, as I have  taken on The infamous Marathon Des Sables, in Morocco April 20223 consideted to be the ‘Hardest foot race in the World.

As a cool down following MDS, I also have 72 miles of Hadrians Wall in a day in June, a 24 hour non stop solo run in July, and the 50 mile LadyBower Reservoir Ultra in October.

This  is a personal challenge for me as it is my way of standing up to Cancer and showing others it does not have to change your life, but also one where I hope to raise funds to help others.  If you feel you would like to contribute to either of these 2 worthy causes, please choose your preference to donate and your generosity would be overwhelmingly appreciated. Together we could help bring about a time when younger people do not have to hear those words, you have cancer, or give someone contemplating suicide hope by letting them know they are not alone

You are reading this as you are one of my friends, and I would like that to continue so please consider regular
checks to help ensure we catch these concerns early, and always remember there
is someone you can talk to if times get hard.
