Sleep Out for the Shelter · 16 October 2015 ·

Strides is a community housing association that believes in maximising the social value of buildings for people and communities. Our goal is to bridge the support gap that prevents people moving forward, creating safe, high-quality spaces where people can navigate their way through life and society.

Story

Jenna says "I am doing the sleep out to help people who are homeless. When it is cold, is really not nice for people to be out on the streets without a home. People like us have houses but many people don't. We are sleeping out to help these people to get help. Please give some money to help!"

Nikki: "We are trying to raise as much money as we can for the Winter Night shelter run by the churches and synagogue in Westminster. From October to May, the shelter provides temporary accommodation, an evening meal and breakfast for homeless people. The West London Day Centre supports helps them get more permanent accommodation and employment. Last year the shelter housed 56 homeless people and 31 got into longer term housing.

The shelter receives no government money and is dependent on donations. As well as raising money, it will help Jenna and I have more of an idea of how it might feel to be homeless. We are sleeping out one night to help people who have to do it every night. Please donate whatever you can to help us reach our target!"
