Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in the London Marathon 2013 to raise much needed funds for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Cornwall Hospice Care is a Cornish based charity which is close to my heart and provides specialist medical care and support to adults living with a life-limiting illness.  The care is delivered at two hospices - Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell and St Julia`s Hopsice in Hayle and the dedicated medical team also give specialist input into the county`s hospitals and other healthcare settings.  The services are completely free of charge to the patient and every donation received is used to fund the care provided within the county.

However, the services cost £6.8 million to run each year  - around 85p in every £ must be met through voluntary income - so the charity relies on the support of people from Cornwall and beyond.

A few examples of what your money could buy...

£55 - Nursing supplies for one day: including items like disposable gloves, syringes and dressings.

£100 - A lymphoedema dressing: a speacialist support dressing to control and reduce the effects of this debilitating condition which is a common side-effect of cancer treatment.

£285 - Physio and Occupational Therapy Services for a day: to address physical needs to ensure continuity of care in the community when patients leave the hospice.

£1000 - A syringe driver: to provide pain relief at a constant rate over 24 hours.

£2000 - Nurse for a month: providing Specialist Palliative Care and support for patients and families.
