Raft Race · 2 June 2012

ELF supports patients & families affected by blood cancer in Devon. We provide a range of services including transport to & from appointments, counselling, financial grants & overnight accommodation. We also fund specialist equipment & training courses to the RD&E hospital's Haematology Centre.

Story

Hurray, we did it. Thank you to everyone who supported me xxx Nim.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Between Saturday 1 and Monday 3 June I'll be rafting with nine other women over 75 miles of the Wye River. We'll be racing against other teams, mostly men, so it's going to be a challenge! We expect to be paddling for at least four hours (non-stop) a day.

I'll be raising money for Exeter Leukemia Fund (ELF), a wonderful charity that does so much for leukemia sufferers. The charity funded the decorating and furnishing of the Haematology Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in soft, calming colours and provided a small sitting area where patients can meet, watch tv, play on a wii or read. It also helps provide counselling, complimentary therapies and refreshments (in a cafe just off the ward). In these ways, ELF helps patients relax and escape from the harsh reality of their condition and its treatment.

To give you an idea of where the money goes:

£100 could pay for 5 aromatherapy sessions, a lovely way to relax and manage some of the side-effects of treatment

£500 could help purchase additional exercise bikes for the ward, vital if hospital-bound patients are to enjoy a little exercise and distraction.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
