Story
I landed among greyhounds by accident.
I have always wanted a dog and when looking at breeds suitable for my living situation (apartment living in a big city!) I came across greyhounds.
I had NO idea what lovely gentle docile friendly loving dogs they are. And I also had no idea about their plight as racing dogs.
Greyhound racing industry is a contentious subject. It is legal and increasing number of trainers treat their dogs well, however the trouble starts after dogs are retired from racing. They retire between 3 - 5 years of age, which means they still have 7 - 9 years to live! Statistics is patchy too - currently there are no official reports, but it is estimated between 7000 and 8000 greyhounds are retired per year, and only a few thousand find new homes through rehoming charities such as Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare (WGW).
What about the rest? Abandoned, put down, sold on to unknown owners and treated...how? No one knows and sometimes you do not wish to know.
To support the efforts of WGW to rehome as many of these beautiful dogs as possible, I'm running Bournemouth 10k race and raising money.
Please look at the photos and help these wonderful dogs find loving forever homes! There are hundreds still waiting!
The funds go directly to the charity.
Thank you from all our hearts (hounds included)!
