Waterloo Uncovered is a groundbreaking charity that combines world class archaeology with support to veteran and serving military personnel wellbeing and recovery.

Story

For many years I held the title of 'party animal'.  Alcohol consumption played a huge part of this lifestyle which had its ups and its downs.  During 2020 I was due to celebrate my 50th birthday so in a bid to be healthy - physically and mentally - I decided to stop drinking alcohol COMPLETELY for the whole of the year.  To ensure I didn't go back on my word I opted to ask people to donate to my chosen charity.

Please reward my sober days and nights by donating:

Waterloo Uncovered combines a world-class archaeology project at Waterloo with support for the military community.  Each year they assemble an international team of archaeologists, soldiers & veterans to excavate and understand the remains of the 200 year old battle site.  Archaeology offers opportunities to everyone no matter their ability or injury, so all participants learn new skills, build confidence and open up to new possibilities.  Through it, Waterloo Uncovered helps veterans with issues like welfare and transition, and transforms recovery into discovery.

Since they began, over a hundred veterans and serving military personnel, many suffering from the mental and physical impacts of their service, have made the journey to Waterloo to participate in the excavations.  Once there, they've discovered much about the conflict - and about themselves.
