Failte folks, or welcome, for the non Scots, once again i have reached a point where the urge to abuse myself mentally and physically is just too strong to ignore, however, this time instead of pushing myself to the limit over 1 crazy race i have decided to do it over 3. Over the course of the next 3 months i will take part in the Edinburgh Rat Race, a 2 day running, cycling, kyaking, climbing and assorted other activities race around the city and surrounding countryside of Edinburgh, The Nokia Coast to Coast, a crazy 100 mile, 2 day event starting in Ballachulish and ending in Nairn, again a combination of running, cycling and kyaking, at least a marathons worth of running, and finally the Mens Health 10k, nice wee one to finish, just a short adventure race around Edinburgh. All the details for these races can be found at www.ratraceadventure.com. I have also roped in the help of a slightly dubious Malcolm Rodger, who will be my teammate for the Rat Race. Whilst not an adventure racing virgin, having successfully completed the Mighty Deerstalker 10k at the start of the year, this is his first full on adventure race experience.
Now for the good part, if your going to thrash yourself it might as well be for a good cause, so all money raised will go to MacMillan cancer support, a charity that does some blindingly good work for people in need, you can check them out at www.macmillan.org.uk.
If i can get the hang of this modern technology stuff i will update with photos and tall tales of training misadventure over the next couple of months, but hopefully no horrific injuries to be included.
