Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of you that know me will know I had emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy on 9th June. Here is my story.......
On the Morning of the 9th June I woke up with severe lower abdominal pain, I called 111 who advised I go to A&E. In A&E I was seen by a triage nurse who believed I was having period pains so suggested I go and see the GP for pain management. At this point I got quite upset because I had a lot of pain and after a further discussion, she agreed to send me to Gynae triage for a further consultation. While waiting in Gynae I told a fellow patient I felt faint and I started to lose consciousness, they alerted a nurse and they got me onto a bed on a side room where I started getting a terrible pain in my shoulder. I had an excruciating internal examination, where the doctor thought there maybe be an issue with one of my ovaries and suggested I needed referring for more tests. The doctor left the room for a short period then returned to inform me that I was pregnant. This was a massive shock to me! I had no idea I was pregnant; I was told they suspected that the pregnancy was ectopic and I needed a scan to confirm. I was taken straight in for a scan that confirmed the pregnancy was not in the right place, my left fallopian tube had ruptured and I had significant internal bleeding. I was prepped for surgery straight away. While waiting to be taken down to theatre I collapsed. Medical staff were quick to help me and I was taken straight to theatre from there to have my pregnancy and fallopian tube removed.
I believe that if I had known the symptoms of an Ectopic Pregnancy, I would have been able to advocate for myself better when seeking medical treatment. I am raising money for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust by trekking the Sahara Desert so they can continue to raise awareness of the symptoms of Ectopic Pregnancy to help women better advocate for themselves.
I was given an informative and comforting information pack whilst I was in the recovery ward that I found extremely helpful. The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust rely on donations to continue to provide these information packs to healthcare settings to be given out to women who have suffered an ectopic pregnancy.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust dedicated a Tulip in honour of my lost pregnancy. Money raised by fundraising ensures they can continue to provide comfort to people grieving the loss of a pregnancy.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust provides a safe and supportive environment where you are able to share your experience and feelings surrounding an ectopic pregnancy. Donations are needed so they can continue to provide this important service that is a lifeline to so many.
