The Association's charitable foundation carries out fundraising to support our work in research, heritage and international development. Donation opportunities are available for those wishing to give to the field of anaesthesia, both in the UK and Ireland, and overseas.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money to prevent unnecessary child deaths in Africa due to a lack of trained physician anaesthetists.  This lack of skill results in the risk of death being one in ten, compared to  one in approximately 200,000 in the UK.

Training healthcare workers is essential to improve these outcomes.

Your donation will pay for for me, and other consultant anaesthetists to travel to Africa, where we will give our time free of charge, to train  'anaesthetic practitioners' (i.e. non-physicians) to improve their skills and knowledge in this vital role.  We will also train trainers to continue this education in the future.  This training primarily focuses on saving the lives of babies and children.

Anaesthetic Practitioners in these countries are so poorly paid that we pay for them to attend the course. Your donation also contributes to this.

£20,000 will pay for 60 practitioners to attend the SAFE training (Safer Anaesthesia from Education).

Thank you for your support. It would be wonderful to be able to make a difference.
