Thanks to all who have donated. Due to the ongoing problems in Greece, we had to cancel the cycle in Greece for November 2011. Thankfully, we have speedily reorganised and have confirmed the cycle will take place in Jordan between 7-11th December. The route will be different but the distance still above 350km, so fear not, all donations will be worked for!

Hi Everyone,

 

I'll be taking part in this year's charity cycle ride from Olympia to Athens. A 365km cycle ride across Greece to raise money for numerous welfare projects across Gaza. If I tried to tell you how much I'm looking forward to this, I think I'd fail! 

 

Lapse of mental faculties, over-estimation of my own mettle... the mind boggles as to why I signed up for this. That is until you realise that the money is for welfare projects dedicated to children with disabilities across Gaza. Then, all of a sudden, everything begins to make sense. 

 

I've decided to cover all the costs associated with the trip myself, leaving all your sponsorship money to go where you would want it to. With this year's focus being on children with disabilities, The Welfare Association have selected a number of charities to raise money for;

 

1. The National Society for Rehabilitation - based in Khan Younis and providing support to 650 children with disabilities.

 

2. Society for the Care for the Handicapped in the Gaza Strip - supporting children with learning disabilities.

 

3. Nour El Marifa Association - basic skill development in English, Arabic and Maths for 250 children with learning disabilities from some of the most impoverished areas in the middle of Gaza.

 

My goal is to raise a minimum of £1,200. My hope is that I can do far better than that and you guess very well, this is precisely the point at which you stop reading and move onto the action phase (ideally by putting your right hand into your pocket, pulling your debit card out, typing in some big numbers into the box and so on and so forth). 

 

Please do help if you can, nothing is too small and seeing your name on the list will make a huge difference to me. Although I will add that if it is very small I will come after you...
