Story

A group of serving and retired Late Entry Officers from The Royal Regiment of Scotland plan to cycle the North Coast 500 route for charity in early May 2016 travelling clockwise around the route. The event will take 6 days and on average we intend to cover 85 miles per day. The intention is to start and finish the cycle challenge at Inverness Castle  with a small media event on both days to mark the occasion.

The aim is to raise money for our Regimental Charity, which provides support for your serving soldiers, their families and our veterans.  In addition, the cycle event will be one of a number of activities undertaken by the Regiment in 2016 to mark its 10 year anniversary.

The cyclists participating in the event are made up of Late Entry Officers who were commissioned from the ranks - aged 40 to 58, with a combined military service to their country of over 300 years.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland was formed in 2006 from a lineage of 14 famous Scottish Infantry Regiments including, The Royal Scots, The Kings Own Scottish Borderers, The Highlanders, The Royal Highland Fusiliers, The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and The Black Watch.

All of the Late Entry Officers taking part in the challenge have served
at one time in one of these historic Regiments.
