North 4 North Ladies Hike · 7 March 2011
We are a group of ladies who have got together with the sole aim of raising badly needed funds for the Enrichment Project which is described below.
We have begun training by hiking 6 miles every Sunday morning, we are planning to increase this to 12 miles over the next few weeks.
The actual charity hike will take place in March 2011 in the Galil area of Israel which is a beautiful lush green area with lots of hills. We will be walking 12 to 15 miles a day over 5 days and we hope to raise £15,000+ between us.
“Enrichment Programme.”
UJIA invests in young people in the UK and in the Galil, northern Israel. Many communities in the Galil suffer from high unemployment, leading to a high percentage living under the poverty line. A direct result of the everyday financial challenges that families in these communities face is that they are unable to provide their children with what we consider the basics in education, supervised care and in some cases a hot meal and a shower.
The enrichment programme helps young people in the Galil in 2 ways, by:
· Providing underprivileged kindergarten children with a nourishing hot meal and a hot shower. Things we take for granted but that their parents cannot provide.
· Supporting Israeli schools, that are forced to close at 1pm due to lack of funds, to provide vital life skills & knowledge, including computer studies, English, environmental studies, art, music & communications. This helps boost the children’s academic results & builds their self-confidence.
We encourage you to contribute to this vital programme. Together we can reach even more young children and make a positive difference to their lives.
