Details for Nottingham Rugby Charity Cycle Challenge for Headway

When

Sunday 30 March 2014

Where

From Headingly, home of Leeds Carnegie (LS6 3BR), over 80 miles to the home of Nottingham Rugby, Meadow Lane (NG2 3HJ) for the Green King IPA Championship clash between the two sides.

Background

David Jackson had to retire from professional rugby due to a head injury back in December 2013, he is hoping to raise awareness of head injuries in sports and money for the brain injury association – Headway.

Since retiring from rugby Jackson has taken up an office role within Nottingham Rugby, and found it difficult adjusting to life after professional rugby and at the time of writing is still suffering from headaches and blurred vision associated with post concussion syndrome.

“I want to help raise some money for a charity that is obviously close to my heart because of the way I had to retire from professional rugby. I’ve been lucky that the neurological specialist I saw said that from the MRI and CT scans that I had, I shouldn’t have any longer terms effects from my concussions. Other people with head injuries are not so lucky and have immediate life changing effects when the brain is damaged or longer term brain issues. Headway charity supports people suffering from head injuries and I would like to help raise money in order to help them in their support of people with head injuries” explained Jackson.
