We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.  On Tuesday 8th February I summitted Kilimanjaro.  Given that it is a lifetime experience I thought that it also would be a good excuse to raise some money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

 Cancer has an impact on us all.  Each year more than 250,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK and 1 in 3 people will develop cancer during their lifetime – but as treatments improve, more people are surviving the disease than ever before.

There are currently 2 million people in the UK living with or beyond cancer.  In all likelihood you are directly related to, or are friends with, at least 1 of these 2 million people.

Marie Curie Cancer Care helps people affected by cancer, including their families in the following ways;

·         Marie Curie Nurses: Research commissioned by Marie Curie Cancer Care shows that 65% of people would choose to die at home. In reality, only 25% achieve this. Every year, Marie Curie nurses make that wish possible by working through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home.  They also provide practical and emotional support for carers and families at what can be an exhausting time.

·         Marie Curie Hospices - There are 9 Marie Curie Hospices across the UK, including one in Belfast.  Each hospice offers specialist support in a relaxed, friendly and comfortable environment and no charge is ever made to patients or their families.  Marie Curie provides the largest number of hospice beds outside the NHS.

·         Research and Development - including palliative care research to improve care for those affected by life-limiting illnesses.

Your donation will help ensure that Marie Curie can continue their good work, make a positive difference to those affected by the disease and help bring about change.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send every single penny of your money directly to Marie Curie Cancer Care and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

All donations, no matter how large or small, are greatly appreciated and will go fully to Marie Curie.  My employer has also kindly agreed to match each donation - hence doubling each donation made.

Thank you for your support!

Nuala
