It made a huge difference to Mum and to all of us around her that Nurse Elaine (the family liaison nurse for the leukemia ward at Barts) was there. She intervened with small things like helping Mum get a room she liked each time she was admitted for treatment, to big things like explaining what the treatment was going to mean and what the risks were. She soon became known as 'Angel-Nurse-Elaine'.
Initially we were trying to raise money for a second 'Nurse Elaine' (from donations at Celia's wedding, for instance), but we've recently learned that the funding is becoming uncertain for the first post, let-alone a second one. So this fund will now contribute to the ongoing funding for Angel-Nurse-Elaine.
Please help if you can and you'd like to. Knowing that Elaine can continue her fabulous work will be much better than anything you might give me to unwrap on my birthday. I promise.
All my love and thanks
Alex
