Story
When I heard that my friend Despo had cancer I'd not seen her for over 20 years. Although we lived next door to one another as kids, our lives had taken us in different directions and we'd lost touch. Learning of her illness made me send a card with my number which led to one wonderful day of reconnecting, sharing photo's and reminiscing. I loved that day. Tragically, although Despo never gave up hope, she died on 28th July 2017 only a month later. She was 43 years old and left behind a husband and two teenage sons. I was deeply affected by her death and devastated that we did not have more time.
Up until then I'd been a bit of a half hearted runner. When I found this event for The Royal Marsden, where Despo spent her final days, I felt inspired. Although the thought of a half marathon terrifies me, running in her memory makes me feel that I can do it. Please help me raise some money for this amazing charity and commemorate the life of my childhood friend.
