CLOSURE OF THE JUSTGIVING PAGES FOR Occed Nepal
From 31st May 2015 we can no longer accept donations through this page.
We request that you send your donations in the next few days to get the 25% Gift Aid added.
It is our wish to set up a charity to accept donations for Occed Nepal Children’s Home, in order to provide long term support, but that will take time and cannot be completed until I return to England
In the meantime we are looking at alternative ways to collect and transfer your donations after 1st June and ask that you email us on dot-nepal@hotmail.co.uk  or occedhome@hotmail.com and we will send you the details
Further updates will be posted on facebook & our 2 JustGiving pages
This one for the new house for education & running costs & https://www.justgiving.com/OCCEDNepalBuildingProject/ for the new house

Over the years, we have worked very hard to improve living conditions for these children, many of whom now look on us as parents, and it has been both rewarding and humbling to see the difference we have been able to make to their lives.

The conditions in their rented accommodation are basic, with electricity only 8 hours per day, often no running water, appalling sanitation and all washing done by hand. The building is due for demolition.

The children are cared for by 3 - 4 resident “didis”, uneducated but totally committed ladies from rural communities. Cooking is done over 3 small gas burners in a tiny kitchen. Food is stored in plastic containers with secure lids to keep out rats.

Since 2012, we have paid an educated local couple to spend some time each day with the children, supervising discipline, cleanliness, hygiene, school work and food. The improvements have been tremendous, with the place looking much cleaner, more organised, and the children more confident and with improved exam results and a real positive attitude to life. Nowhere could you find more grateful, happy and caring children.

The older children are educated in English at a private school, as the state ones are very poorly run. It is expensive – approximately £350 each per year, but illustrates the importance attached to a good education.

The annual expenditure for OCCED is around £25,000 which is raised from sponsorship,  a small amount from the government, and then donations from friends and volunteers.

The Board of Governors recognise that a new building is essential and urgent. Over the past 3 years, we have helped raise £200,000 which has paid for a large plot of land on the outskirts of the city for this, complete with play area and vegetable garden. However, a similar amount is now needed for the actual building costs (see separate site, Dot Coupe Justgiving page http://www.justgiving.com/OCCEDNepalBuildingProject )
