Story

We're the ‘Oarsome Buoys’ and we are both preparing to enter the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Race 2015. We're taking on this huge challenge to support a worthy cause that is close to both of us.

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is the world’s toughest rowing race. Many teams across the globe will take on the huge feat and will row more than 3,000 nautical miles for up to 90 days across the world’s second largest ocean, the Atlantic.

We will set off in December 2015 and will row across the challenging Atlantic Ocean from San Sebastian de La Gomera to Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua.

Once we leave the safety of the harbour we will be alone, on the vast ocean and at the mercy of the elements, until the race comes into its final stretch. All boats are equipped at the race start and we won't be able to take any repair, help or food and water during the crossing. We will face a constant battle of sleep deprivation, salt sores and the physical extremes that the row will inflict.

We are asking people to support us by sponsoring us to take on the challenge and help to raise as much as we possibly can to help Rowcroft continue to care for people with terminal life-limiting illnesses, and support their families.

Training starts now, and I know with your support and encouragement we can complete the challenge and raise vital funds for a charity that has helped so many people across South Devon.

Thanks for your support, Ryan and Shaun - The Oarsome Buoys
