Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Bella, I am 10 years old.  I love animals, the ocean, being with my family and friends and playing soccer.

After hearing the sad details about the amount of fishing nets and trash in our oceans, and the innocent animals being killed, I knew I needed to do something. Hundreds of thousands of animals are being killed by commercial fishing gear every year. This is a serious problem, but another problem is over fishing. Over fishing our oceans is causing a disruption to our once healthy ecosystem.

My family and I are asking for your help, to assist the Sea Shepard Conservation Society make the oceans healthy again. The Sea Shepard Conservation group has been actively fighting for our oceans and the living creatures in them, all over the world and since  1977. For more information on the great work they do please visit:  https://seashepherd.org

-Enough fishing line is set everyday to wrap around the Earth 500 times.

-300,000 dolphins, whales and porpoises are killed in fishing nets every year, along with 30,000 sharks per hour.

-250,000 Sea turtles are captured, injured, or killed every year by the fishing industry in the United States.

46% of the Great Pacific garbage patch is made up of fishing nets, which are far more dangerous for marine life than plastic straws because they are designed to kill
