Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After the Circuit of the Cotswolds (2009), Caledonia Etape (2010)and Somerset Levels (2011), this year's cycle ride for charity is much closer to home - Plymouth to Princetown on Dartmoor and back. My wife Wendy and I have been supporting St Luke's Hospice for a long time through their charity shops so this year I thought it would be good to provide more funds for their outstanding work. I will be doing the 35 mile route and training in the weeks ahead. Pray for good weather .... it is foul at the moment but better is promised for July and August. Watch this space where I will be reporting how training is going and please visit the St Luke's Hospice website to read about their wonderful work.

21 July - Couple of good rides last week - Plymouth to Burrator Reservoir and back (32 miles) and Plymouth to Whitsand Bay and back (20 miles). Weather now improving and looking forward to good training conditions over the next few weeks.

29 August - Four rides this month totalling 120 miles and actually rode the 35 mile course last Sunday, a beautiful day on Dartmoor. Up the old railway line to Princetown and back along very rough moorland tracks where I have to admit in places I got off and walked. Took just over 4 hours which isn't too bad considering the hills and very stoney tracks. About six weeks to go........

15 October - Completed the ride on a beautiful day ... bright sunshine and dry overhead although very muddy crossing Dartmoor. Just over four hours which is not bad when I had to get off and walk in places. My wife was waiting at the halfway point at Princetown with hot oxtail soup ... the "elixir of the Gods" .... I was flying after that .... Physically the only problem was cramp in my legs probably due to the lycras being too tight ..!!

Many, many thanks to all those who have supported me. Intend to do another ride next year and in the meantime I will "keep cycling".
