Story
During Summer 2014, Ben and I spent 7 weeks at Kalene Hospital, Zambia. It is situated in the north west corner of Zambia, approximately 20 km from the borders of Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I was busy working on my medical elective and Ben was rewiring the hospital. We loved being there and gained a lot from it.
I have decided to run Cambridge Half Marathon and London Marathon to raise funds for Kalene hospital.
Kalene is a wonderful hospital which provides medical care for local population as well as patients as far as hundreds of kilometres into Congo and Angola. It was a real privilege to be there and learn so much. Currently there are only three full time doctors at the hospital with some visiting doctors during some months of the year, there are around 180 in patient beds, as well as daily out patient clinics and operation lists. It is a big workload and they are under a lot of pressure, they manage masses of patients under a strain of poor resources. The money that you will give will go towards the running of this hospital, equipment and supplies for patients of Kalene. Every little helps.
