SNOWDONIA CHARITY CHALLENGE 2018 · 9 June 2018 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
Oli our 22 year old 6ft 2" soft brown eyed lovely son died on 26th August 2010 of a highly pathogenic influenza virus, most likely bird flu, in Vietnam whist on holiday. Since this time his family and friends from school and Cardiff University have got together twice a year to play golf. We raise money for charity at these events. Oli loved golf and had a handicap of 10 aged 14. I used to play a Woods Cup twice a year with him which I occasionally won. We all miss him and are doing this in his memory and to help others who have been injured.
What we are doing is the Snowdonia Challenge and this entails a 40 mile cycle ride, climb up Snowdon and a canoe across Lake Gwynant.
We trained and prepared to complete this challenge in June 2017 however, gale force winds and flooding led to the event being cancelled as deemed treacherous by the Mountain Rescue Team. Three teams are back and training hard to complete 'unfinished business' in Snowdon this year.
We have three teams: Oli Golf Team 1, Oli Golf Team 2 and Oli Golf Team 3 all doing the challenge and raising funds for Regain to support men and women paralysed in sporting accidents.
Regain is the only charitable organisation dedicated solely to improving the lives of men and women who have become tetraplegic in a sporting accident. One minute these individuals are fit, active and healthy, the next they are paralysed and in need of support for the rest of their lives. Every penny helps towards giving sports tetraplegics an independent life, by providing much needed equipment such as good wheelchairs, computer aided equipment and hand bikes.
This event is Regains' biggest fundraiser and we are pleased to be able to take part and support them as it is the sort of cause Oli would have wanted to support.
