We are confronting advanced breast cancer to provide hope & strength to all affected

Story

Ollies dear friend Vicky Yates has advanced breast cancer. In a few weeks time she will be chopping Ollies hair off to raise money and awareness of Second Hope.

Vicky was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in November 2010 aged 31, had surgery to remove the cancer, then chemo, radiotherapy and hormone therapy.

Whilst on hormone therapy Vic was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in August 2015 aged 36. It had spread to her lungs, liver and lymph nodes. Currently she is undergoing chemo to try and keep it at bay for as long as possible and will be having treatment until it stops working.

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Of those 30% will be diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, including young women under 40, which will kill them.

Less than 5% of breast cancer research funding is dedicated to advanced breast cancer. 36,000 people are living with advanced breast cancer. The average life expectancy is between 2 and 3 years. 12,000 people a year die from the disease, that's one person every 44 minutes.

Second Hope is the only UK charity specifically for people living with advanced breast cancer. It's run purely by volunteers which means all donations received go to fulfill charitable aims and objectives, not to pay salaries and overheads.

Second Hope's mission is to raise awareness and knowledge of advanced breast cancer, support and empower those living with advanced breast cancer, to campaign on behalf of those affected by advanced breast cancer and fund research into advanced breast cancer.

Ollies hair will be sent to The Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children who are undergoing cancer treatment.
