At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Back in 2015, our loving grandma, Maureen O’Gorman was sadly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. As a family, over the past 5 years we have witnessed the devastating impact that Alzheimer’s has on both the individual suffering with it, and the family around them. Our grandma always kept the same sense of humour, kindness and love that she always found time to give to her children and grandchildren in abundance. Our grandma sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s last month. We don’t want anybody else to have to see a parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt/uncle go through the hard and often devastating impacts that Alzheimer’s causes. Therefore, on the 24th April, me and my brothers are completing a memory walk from Solihull to Balsall Common and back, highlighting our walk on the road which our Grandma and Grandpa shared their bungalow together and holds so many happy memories. We are doing this in solidarity with those who lost their lives to Alzheimer’s, those who care for someone with Alzheimer’s, those who continue to  brave the fight with courage everyday, and of course in memory of our incredible grandma. We are hoping to raise money through this walk; all of which will go to the Alzheimer’s Society in hope that one day we will find a cure.
