Story
In May 2023, along with my colleagues at The Barton Partnership, I will be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours. I will be raising money for GAIN, a charity that supports people, like my Dad, who have suffered from Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS).
GBS is a rare autoimmune condition affecting the peripheral nervous system, leading to temporary or long-term paralysis. Around 75% of those with GBS will make a full recovery, but 10% of people will not survive and another 15% are left with severe mobility or dexterity issues.
My Dad suffered this in December 2021 and whilst it was an incredibly tough period for both him and our family, he was one of the lucky 75% and has made a remarkable and full recovery over the last year.
GAIN helps people understand and manage both acute and chronic variants of the syndrome, raises awareness, and promotes clinical and non-clinical research into these conditions. For more info visit www.gaincharity.org.uk
