A Mile In Their Shoes

A Mile In Their Shoes · 13 December 2021
This challenge has now been completed. Untold gratitude to everyone that supported me financially, spiritually, and physically. This has been a truly bizarre part of my life that I'll not soon forget. Thankyou
Each year around 2200 people are diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in the UK.
For those who are lucky enough to not know much about this type of cancer - there is no real cure, patients will go through multiple rounds of chemo throughout their life to keep the disease at bay waiting for the symptoms to become worse than the effects of chemo again and again for the rest of their lives.
This year I became one of them with my own diagnosis of stage 4 duodenal-type follicular lymphoma, a rare and slow growing version of the disease, many have said that their thoughts are with me and I'm very grateful to know such lovely people.
OK, cool. Why am I telling you this?? Well, throughout 2022 I am going to walk a mile in their shoes, one mile for every person : that's 6 a day, every day, for a year.
Don't worry I'm not gonna ask you to walk them with me. But I will ask you for a penny, one whole penny: Either a penny for every day I do this for (£3.65) or a penny for every mile I complete (£22).
My charity of choice is the Lincoln City Foundation and their 'Fighting Fit' program for Cancer rehabilitation, they help many in the area with fitness to help combat the return of cancer and with managing symptoms, they also offer walking days for patients and family members just to chat, there's many big charities out there but this one I feel is important for those who can't just get out there and do their daily exercises alone.
So whilst I walk in reflection of past, present, and future...
A penny for your thoughts?
