Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

According to the European Commission on Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection along with  the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, millions of people in Ukraine are in need of humanitarian aid due to the combined impact of conflict, displacement and extreme poverty.

My name is Olya Radetskaya. I have immigrated to England from the East of Ukraine in 2003. Being Ukrainian myself and coming from the area of the conflict, I have seen through my family, friends and personal experience (as I had travelled to Ukraine this summer) how bad the living conditions are, especially for the ill and the elderly. They are leading a miserable existence surviving on a pittance of a pension, which hardly covers very basic food purchases and they cannot afford their vital medications.

The fighting has had a catastrophic effect on the region's economy
and infrastructure which has had a long lasting fall out on the life
of the people in these areas. The roads are damaged beyond repair and communications between the towns and villages has been crippled as a result.

There is a deficiency in jobs and what welfare is available from the Government, is such a pittance at £32 per month that this has caused widespread deprivation. The inflation rate is high and the indexing is not
sufficient enough.

Food, when available, is astronomically priced and due to lack of     funds is incredibly difficult to obtain. Along with the lack of food, life saving medication is also virtually unobtainable and unaffordable. Those who rely on medication to survive have had to go without, resulting in     their untimely deaths.

As a result of the military bombardments, there has been an exodus     of people, whose houses were destroyed by the constant fighting and wanton destruction, leaving only a few left behind to try and survive in the current war zone.  The scattering of people who have been unable to leave their homes are mainly the elderly and infirm, the rest having evacuated themselves to family and friends spread across the country.

The ones left behind, having no friends or family to turn to, are suffering in inconceivable destitution. Many are house bound and unable to feed themselves let alone travel the distance needed to buy what food and medicines that are supposedly available. There have been numerous confirmed reports, in this purported age of plenty, of people starving to death in their own homes.

British-Ukrainian Aid (BUAid) is a non political charitable organisation which supports people suffering from the armed conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, including the injured and wounded, orphaned children, the elderly, internally displaced persons and families who have lost their breadwinners.

British-Ukrainian Aid is an initiative born out of the passion and dedication of its founders to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of people who have fallen victim of the tragic events unfolding in Ukraine.

British-Ukrainian Aid primarily help individuals who have to choose between buying food and medicines as they cannot afford to pay for both of these basic needs.

Can you please help these ill vulnerable people and improve their life conditions? Together we can make sure that they live in less pain and with more dignity.

Thank you for your time and your help.
