Orchid's 13th annual male cancer awareness week (13th - 19th Sept)

Male cancer awareness week (13th - 19th Sept) · 16 September 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in December 2020 during the UK second wave of COVID-19. This was compounded by the fact I had to receive this bad news alone, without the support of family and friends due social distancing rules.
Initially I was reluctant to be investigated and dismissed my own symptoms. Thankfully due to the persistence of my partner and working in the NHS, I was diagnosed and treated quickly. Following surgery and chemotherapy, I am now back to full health.
I am so grateful for all the support I have received. By raising awareness for Orchid, I hope to encourage other people to not ignore their symptoms and seek medical advice early.
As most people who know me, I enjoy high intensity workouts. For those that would like to join me, I will be doing Barry’s bootcamp classes on Monday 6am, Wednesday 6am and a special charity class Saturday 11:15am; all at the central studios near Euston station. Please direct message me if you are interested in taking part. Many thanks. MC
Every year, 50,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with a male cancer. That’s 5 men every hour. A horribly high number. Whilst most men know about breast cancer and most of the conditions known to womankind, statistics and anecdotal feedback show that many men don’t know that they should check themselves on a regular basis. And, may even be a bit squeamish to do so.
