Magen David Adom (MDA) is Israel’s only ambulance and medical emergency service. For 75 years MDA UK has raised funds for medical equipment, ambulances, bloodmobiles and stations to benefit ALL Israel’s citizens. MDA is a non-governmental organisation that depends on donors to save more lives.

Story

In a decision that our knees will hate us for in years to come, we have agreed to Trek through some of the toughest terrain in the blazing desert heat. We will sleep in a desert tent, we will climb mountains and work a full unpredictable and high pressured ambulance shift.

As if that wasn't impressive enough, Wendy and I will be doing it together. We will even commit to sharing a suitcase - perhaps my toughest test yet.

MDA is a very special emergency medical care organisation, run largely with unpaid volunteers.

This year a group of Jewish and Christian volunteers will trek together to provide lifesaving facilities and equipment for the Bedouin Arab village of Rehat in Israel.  This epitomises everything that is special about this charity and the communities it serves. EVERY life is precious, regardless of politics, religion or race. MDA partners with the Red Cross and Red Crescent to ensure lifesaving emergency medical care is available whenever and wherever it is needed.

The 2019 trek will be even more poignant, as we will visit and tour the blood centre, where by brothers stem cells came from. A plaque will be placed in his memory. If Wendy and I have learned anything this year, it is about the value of life.

This is Wendy's first Trek and my third. We know and appreciate that being asked repeatedly for donations can be difficult, which is why we will be making our own contribution towards our total. That said, if you feel able to support this amazing cause and our efforts, we would be extremely grateful.
