Oscar's Swim and Kayak of the Caledonian Canal · 13 August 2018

Founded by Bethany Hare - Helping to support children with life limiting/life threatening illnesses & their families since 2011. Bethany's Smile also aims to inspire & empower young people to become fundraisers.

Story

On the 18th August 2018 I will be setting off from Forte William and Kayaking the first stretch of the canal until I reach Loch Lochy where I will swim to the next section of the canal and then kayak to Loch Oich and swim again. This will be followed by more kayaking to Loch Ness where I will swim the entire length over 3 days followed by a final stretch of kayaking to Inverness.

I have a support team consisting of a kayaker and a liveaboard boat which will be following me along the journey. I am hoping to do 10 miles a day and sleep on the boat through the night.

I will be kayaking because I am not allowed to swim the canals due to heavy boat traffic. I am hoping to complete this within 7 days - weather and midges permitting!

Bethany continually offers help to families of children with life threatening, life limiting and terminal illness. I would like to help her raise some money towards her goal of £300,000 to buy a small cottage near the sea which can be adapted for families to use for short breaks and respite.

Many families have children in wheelchairs, on oxygen, bedridden and therefore hotels are not suitable for them.

Beth wants to provide somewhere that has hoist moveable sinks, low work tops and full wheelchair access, lovely views plus more.
