So who are PAFRAS?
Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers works with destitute asylum seekers, refugees and local communities in Leeds and surrounding areas. They focus on providing humanitarian support for asylum seekers who are homeless, without food or money and prevented from improving their situation by government policy.
PAFRAS operate a twice weekly drop-in providing hot food, food parcels, a small amount of food vouchers, casework and mental health support.
Our objectives are to: reduce the effects of destitution and poverty, improve physical and mental health and well-being, support access to mainstream services, improve integration and raise awareness amongst local communities.
So who are the PAFRAS runners?
Liz had the initial idea of undergoing this 10k challenge and the 3 of us felt we could not let her do it alone (why? I hear you ask!). Liz is a Trustee at PAFRAS, Mary is our Mental Health Worker and Emma and Laurie are caseworkers. Volunteering with and working for PAFRAS we're aware of the shoe string on which we operate and of the needs amongst our service users.
None of us have done anything like this before and so it's a big challenge for us all and we are training hard.
Please help us to continue our good work, all donations no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated.
