Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

My name is Ruby and I love long walks in the park, chasing squirrels up trees, and being petted by humans. Yes, I am a dog.

I have two siblings, Coco and Max, they are cats. I don’t think they like me because no matter how many times I bring them my toys they just sit there, refusing to play. I wag my tail really fast and everything but they still ignore me. I love them anyway, I love everyone!

I am a very special kind of dog called a PAT dog. I get to wear an awesome yellow jacket that says ‘Pets As Therapy’ and every week my human, Megan, takes me to visit residents at the Southbourgh and Hamilton Nursing Homes. PAT dogs and cats get to visit Hospitals, Hospices, Special needs schools and loads of other places too!

I make so many friends there and everyone smiles when I come to see them. I sit next to everyones wheelchair with my head on their lap and they stroke me, it feels so nice! Sometimes they even share their biscuits with me when they think Megan isn’t looking.

Unfortunately Megan has a medical condition that causes her to faint and be dizzy all the time, but it doesn’t matter because she never gives up! When she was training to run a half marathon I got to help by guiding her when she was too dizzy to see, and I was in the news paper! Unfortunately I wasn’t aloud to enter the race so her friend helped guide her instead.

After completing the half marathon and raising £1,365 for The National Deaf Children's Society, she swam 8 kilometers and then climbed the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours, raising £867 for Help for Heroes. I got to help her train for that too, but I couldn’t go with her because it was too far for me to walk.

In April she is going back to Wales to climb Mount Snowdon again, and this time I get to go with her. I am so excited! I have never climbed a mountain before. We are going to raise money for Pets As Therapy so that more people can benefit from visits by PAT Dogs and PAT Cats.

Thank you for supporting my first ever mountain climb! I promise to keep my human safe. I have to go and bark at the imaginary fox in the garden now.

Goodbye and thank you!

If you have a friendly dog or cat and are interested in volunteering you can find out more here: http://www.petsastherapy.org/ within just 5 miles of my house there are over 50 places waiting for a PAT animal. Can you help?

Ruby will be completing the challenge with her owner Megan and her boyfriend Michael, as well as their friend Jenny who is fundraising for another cause.
