Story
Manchester Proton Beam Therapy Project
The UKs first Proton Beam Therapy Centre is under construction at the Christie Foundation Trust Hospital in Manchester.
Proton Beam Therapy is the single biggest breakthrough in treatment of cancer, particularly in young children, in recent decades. You may recall garnering a lot of media attention over the last year, specifically the case of Ashya King who was successfully treated overseas.
Completing the design and the ongoing build of the centre is the first step, but there’s lots more research to be done in refining the treatment and reducing the side effects of this new treatment. A lot of this effort will be focused through a research space being designed into the building and, there is a mechanism that allows fundraising specifically for this fund
The trust have a target to raise £5.6m to build and equip this research space - the current total sit’s at £3m.
A team of people who have worked on the project with representatives ranging from Architects and Engineers to Radiographers and Managers are summiting Kilimanjaro on the 5th – 15th Oct 2017 to raise awareness and funds for this fantastic project.
