KISS works in Uganda to support vulnerable children, their families and their communities. It does this by providing funding for education; medical treatment; families that care for orphaned children or are in difficult circumstances; support for young mothers and social outreach projects.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why 'Last of the Summer Wine'? Well, some senior citizen friends and I have decided to walk across England following Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, at the beginning of May.  Hence Compo lives on.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our challenge is to walk just under 200 miles across the north of England, from St Bee's Head to Robin Hood's Bay.

I am hoping that friends and family will support me and KISS, the charity I have chosen to assist, by sponsoring me.

All the expenses of the walk I have met, and all money raised will go directly to the beneficiaries of the charity.

Kiss has been an important part of my life since our daughter Catherine, not long after leaving school, decided to immerse herself in its work, among other things, by living there for over 18 months.  While in Uganda, in 2001, Angela and I had the opportunity of visiting her and seeing the work of KISS first hand.  The visit made a lasting impression.  What can seem such little money to us can really transform lives over there.  £2 can treat a child with malaria: £30 will educate a primary child for one year, £100 a secondary child: £200 will build a family home.  We saw first hand the fantastic work that KISS was achieving.

The photos you are able to see were taken at that time. Yes, 'Compo' does look a little younger and thinner despite the gift of the chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More recent is the video which you can see from this page.  Please, please do see it in its entirety. It is only short - the length of a beautiful Annie Lennox song!  I hope it shows what an impact that KISS is having in Uganda.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the KISS and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please enjoy viewing the video and if at all possible support this very worthwhile charity.

Thanks so much in anticipation.

Peter

19th May 2011.    I am now back in Letchworth, tired and with sore feet!!!!!  We have had the most fantastic time, experiencing some 'interesting' weather at times, and in awe of our beautiful country.  I am so grateful to all who have so kindly supported me and to my dear friends who offered their companionship during my adventure.

There are two new photos on this web-site.  We could not let the opportunity pass when reaching Robin Hood's Bay of enjoying some Yorkshire ale!  Also, I was so pleased to learn on my return that at long last it has been possible for the two Julius', who work so tirelessly for KISS in Uganda to be with us in the UK.  Within hours of my returning home they were with me to say 'thank you'.

I have many, many memories of this adventure.  They will be with me for the rest of my life!
