Last year a few us decided we would try to complete the Coast to Coast Bike Ride in 3 days as a bit of fun, cycling from Whitehaven to Sunderland, covering a distance of 137 miles through the Lake District and across the Pennines to the North Sea. This instead of enjoying a 4 day Bank Holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

We discovered that the Macclesfield Wheelies - a local charity providing sports activities for wheel chair and physically disabled children and adults send a number of their members to the Calvert Trust near Keswick. As we are passing almost by their door, we decided that we would ride for on their behalf to raise some funds to support these annual trips and other activities that they arrange throughout the year.

The event is now firmly in the diary and we have grown from 4 to a group of over 20 - including representatives from the Wheelies and one couple taking part on a tandem! We have even designed our own Round Table Cycling Kit to look the part!

We are leaving Whitehaven on the morning of Saturday 2nd June and hope to reach Sunderland around lunchtime on Monday 4th June. There are going to be some real challenges along the way, especially day 2 where there are 4 really big climbs for us to contend with. We have been practicing all through the winter to make sure we are able to complete 3 days in the saddle.

So, while you are enjoying the sunshine of the Jubilee weekend, spare a thought for the 20 or so intrepid cyclists making their way from the Irish to the North Sea!

All of the money that is donated will go directly to Macclesfield Wheelies as I am funding all of the costs incurred over the 3 days.
