Ty Olwen is the local hospice for Swansea and surrounding areas based on the grounds of Morriston hospital. They provide extra comforts and amenities that aren't provided by the NHS to advanced terminally ill patients. 

The hospice has a number of staff per bed policy which ensures no waiting around when a patient is in need of care, or even some ice cream or a cup of tea! There is even a spare bed to every patient bed so that family can stay with their loved one at all times. My family were so grateful to get my Dad moved from the hospital to the calm and peaceful environment of the hospice. Ty Olwen has completely changed my view of hospices, it was not a place of doom and gloom (as i had previously imagined) but a place full of the most amazing staff that showed true dedication to providing the best possible end of life care. I can not express enough how wonderful this hospice is, truly the most caring and compassionate doctors, nurses, health care support workers and volunteers work there and go above and beyond in looking after the patients and their families at an extremely difficult time. 

We are truly lucky to have such a wonderful service available to us as NHS patients. Whilst part funded by the NHS, Ty Olwen still need to raise a further £450,000 a year to keep providing this vital service.

I would also like to take a moment to pay tribute to my inspirational Dad who through all the negativity and set backs that came with his illness, positivity and determination shone through in bucket loads even at the most difficult of times, he was truly amazing!
