The Challenge

The National Three Peaks Challenge starts on the 7th September 2013. This involves climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Mount Snowdon - over 11,000 feet in total, all in the space of 24 hours!

Vertical Heights is the company who arrange and support us climbers.  They have provided us with the essentials of what we will need for our trek and their transport and support!

The Training

In preperation for the climb, it is quite clear that you have to be reasonably fit.  Since signing up for the challenge I have re-opened my gym account, bought in half decent running shoes and been swimming quite a few times. In the past 2 weeks I have climbed Ben Lomond twice, firstly with Friends and then with my boyfriend.  I hope to climb Ben Nevis twice before the 7th September. 

My Partner in Climb

My good friend Sandra Dodds is also doing the 3 Peak Challenge.  Sandra signed up for the challenge firstly and straight away I contacted her leting her know I was also interested.  Together we recently climbed Ben Lomond and on the 3rd August we are setting out to conquer Ben Nevis!  I'm really looking forward to spending the weekend with Sandra and achieving this challenge together!   (With a Large glass of wine on our way home!) :-)

The Charity

We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for two funds set up in the Southern General Hospital. These provide funding for Education and Research into Head and Neck Cancers so any donation would be greatly appreciated! The challenge is completely self-funded, meaning that all donations go straight to the charity :)

Sandra is a Dental Hygienist in the Maxillofacial Unit in the Southern General, she gets to see first hand how research and education not only benefits the patients we treat, but also the clinitians that treat them throughout Scotland. In order to ensure this continues it is crucial there is money available.

I myself work within the NHS also, I was going to choose the same type of charity so thought it would be a good idea to team up with Sandra and her charity and together we can raise as much money as we can!

I think its clear that nearly everyone has suffered some pain through this horrible disease.  Therefore I am looking forward to doing my bit and raising all the money I can!
