Recently, I visited Lebanon in the Bekaa valley where most of the Syrian refugees stay  in informal settlements. I was moved by their plight since most of the refugees which includes children, women, senior citizens live in one single tent sharing basic facilities. Many of them have little means to support themselves and their family or their health needs. I was selected to represent my organisation Qlik in association with our CSR partner Medair, an international NGO that works to support this humanitarian crisis in the Bekaa valley in Lebanon.

This is my personal campaign to support the outstanding work being done by Medair and hope that I am able to achieve my funding goal!

A bit about this crisis:

No country in the world is hosting more refugees per capita than Lebanon. A country of 4.4 million people is hosting more than one million Syrian refugees. Tensions are high. The cost of living has skyrocketed. The country has been stretched beyond its capacity to cope with so many vulnerable families.

More than 361,000 refugees have sought shelter in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, many of them living in tent settlements on rented farmland. With the crisis in its sixth year, the level of funding available to support Syrian refugees is shrinking. These families need safe and warm places to live, they need health care, education, safe drinking water, sanitation, and food. Most of them are simply trying to survive until there is peace and they can return home.

What does MedAir do?

- Safe Places to Live : MedAir provides families with new arrival shelter kits, repair kits for existing shelters, and spezialied shelter interventions for the elderly and disabled. They improve the living conditions and saftey of the settlements trough site improvement and fire prevention.

- Healthcare : MedAir provides life-saving health and nutrition services to vulnerable women and children and improves Access to Services for gender-based violence. They support and stregthen health clinics as well as the overall health system.

- Water, Sanitation & Hygiene : MedAir provides safe drinking water and latrines as well as improves Drainage and sanitation in the informal settlements.

- Mapping : In Lebanon, MedAir identifies and maps all of the informal settlements located in Beeka Valley. This mapping is utilised by the humanitarian community as an essential coordination tool so that everyone knows about areas of urgent needs. This is important so that isolated families are not easily forgotten.
