Thanks for taking the time to visit our pilgrimage JustGiving page
Various members of our parish have completed a pilgrimage over two days from St Michael and All Angels Church (just outside Wimborne and in the diocese of Salisbury) to Salisbury Cathedral on 1st and 2nd of June - a distance of about 28 miles. Thirteen people managed to walk the whole distance, but there were several who joined them for parts of the walk.
First Day. The day started rather wet but we all set off in good spirits accompanied on his bicycle by Steve Brett, our local community policeman, who was providing safety cover. We were very pleased to have him with us. We reached Gussage All Saints for lunch and midday prayers and then said goodbye to Steve. The afternoon was dry although still wet underfoot. We made good progress but many of us were pleased to see the final stretch of road as we approached Pentridge. In the evening there was more worship and a fine barbeque!
Second Day. The weather was much improved and after breakfast and Morning Prayer we set off again. Our route gave us some wonderful views of the local countryside. We arrived Stratford Tony where we had lunch on the small village green. The final stretch in the afternoon took us up to Salisbury Racecourse, and from there down into Salisbury and the Cathedral. There we were welcomed by many of our parishioners who had travelled by car and coach to greet us, along with the Canon Chancellor, Rev Edward Probert from the Cathedral, who joined with us for the final pilgrimage act of worship. We were then entertained to tea in the grounds of Bishop Wordsworth School after which we went to Choral Evensong in the Cathedral.
Why have we done this? Partly to enjoy ourselves with other members of the body of Christ but more importantly to experience what it means to be on pilgrimage and especially to raise funds for three charities - The Salisbury Diocesan Sudan Fund - to support our Christian brothers and sisters in that country, The Reef - a local community youth project, and Shelter Boxes - emergency international aid
Please help us to support these charities and thank you from all of us if you have already made a donation.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to St Michael's Church and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we all raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. St Michael's will then divide equally the total sum raised between our three nominated charities.
