On the 11th of September we will be embarking on our second stint of the Great North Run. This time we're doing it for a charity very close to our hearts. 

The Great North Run falls one day short of the year anniversary of my Grandad's death it would be the perfect way to commemorate our loss. Because my Grandad was such a positive and wonderful person, we want to do something positive for him.

My Grandad had fought with emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis for 5 years, and always put on a brave face for the sake of our family. Less than one month after my Grandad passed, my Pop (Nick's Dad and my other Grandad) was diagnosed with lung cancer. My Pop is still battling his cancer. Without charities like The British Lung Foundation I don’t think my Grandad would’ve had 5 years of fight in him. This is why we want to run the Great North Run for The British Lung Foundation, so that we can raise money for a charity that has helped our family so much.

Our story is no different to anyone else’s and we are exceptionally lucky and grateful to have had so many years with Grandad. We all carry our own separate griefs and dealing with the loss has been incredibly challenging for us. Instead of letting this grief defeat us, we're trying to let it make us stronger and running has really helped us with that.
