Story
I am running the London marathon!
I entered the ballot on a whim having seen my girlfriend, Sorcha, complete her first ever marathon - and I got jealous.
I knew I wanted to do a marathon sooner or later in life, but inside I was hoping for later.... but here we are, the ballot let me in!
A lot of people know me as a runner, which I guess I am, but I’m used to racing the 800m.
A marathon is almost 53 times that distance, so I am having to retrain my body in a completely different way than it is used to. The change in training has been so tough and I'm constantly fatigued.
Having a ballot place in the Marathon means that I don’t have to raise money, but I still want to try and make a positive difference and take the chance to help raise money for a lovely local charity.
Therefore my way of making a difference has led me down the route of supporting a small, local charity; the Greenwich Foodbank. I'm hoping that the money raised here will make a huge difference.
The foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in the local area. A statement from them reads: "We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK."
I do have Marathon targets, and I would love for you to challenge me to a finish time and commit to specific amounts dependent on time. Otherwise, all donations from now up until the Marathon date are absolutely welcome.
Thank you for reading my ramble. Hope to see you cheering!
