I along with a group of 11 other riders will be cycling the length of the UK from Lands End to John O'Groats a total of roughly 900miles over 7 days. I wish to raise money and awareness to the unsung heroes who have been the shoulder/carer and support for so many people within the UK and who have helped bring alot of people through troubled times. I speak to you all of the Men and Women who work for the Macmillan Charity. This Charity receives no Government funding and as such rely on donations to continue the amazing work they do.
The reason I wish to raise money for this worthy cause is simple. The inspiration behind why I took cycling and why so many others also did is my late Grandad Michael James Earp. He was known throughout the industry and owned a local cycle shop where I grew up in my home town of Malvern, Worcestershire. Along with myself and other family members he also introduced many other people into the sport of not just Road biking but also Mountain biking.
Unfortunately, many years ago he was hit by a terrible disease we all know and hate called Cancer, which he sadly passed away from. Through the help and support given by Macmillan my family came through this horrible period in our lives. Only recently that terrible disease has returned and unfortunately taken my other Grandad, again Macmillan are the ever present work force to assist those closest to him.
It would be wrong of me to take on such a challenge and not honour the man who was always there helping. I have many a fond memory of visiting the shop and watching him work and seeing the new bikes being delivered. Trips to watch the Milk Race (Tour of Britain) cheering the teams go by. He was a member of the Evesham Wheelers and I still own his Jersey and Road Bike which take pride of place within my home on the wall, a constant reminder to always strive for the best of you not matter how hard the head wind may be.
Please help me raise as much money as I can for this amazing Charity and help those who give their time to help so many others.
