Story

20 brave volunteers are rowing a round the coast of Ireland as part of the “Row a Round Ireland” challenge in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

http://www.rowaroundireland.com/

The challenge kicks off from Bray Harbour, Co. Wicklow on May 30th 2015 and will be completed approximately 4 months later. A two-rower crew will have to average 20 miles per day and navigate the some 1,000 miles of rough but beautiful seas off our coast. There will be stopovers in over 60 towns and villages in Ireland.

More info on the project, the team and how to get involved can be found on our website above

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. There are around 1,200 people with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland today with approximately 50 new cases diagnosed in Ireland each year. Ireland has the highest incidence of CF in the developed world.

People with CF encounter many difficulties throughout their lives which include respiratory problems, chronic lung infections, difficulty gaining weight and absorbing nutrients, kidney problems, liver disease, etc.

A person with CF's typical daily routine would include two hours of medications, nebulisers and physio in the morning, and again in the evening. A lung infection can take anything from 2-6 weeks of antibiotics in hospital for a CF patient. To make life a little easier for patients with Cystic Fibrosis, initiatives to improve facilities in hospitals for CF sufferers and their families can make a significant difference to their lives.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland are an organisation that is dedicated to providing support to people with Cystic Fibrosis and their families as well as working to improve facilities and services for Cystic Fibrosis patients. CF Ireland are supported by fundraising and voluntary contributions. Row-A-Round Ireland want to promote awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and raise money to improve the well being and facilities for CF sufferers throughout Ireland.
