Ocean Youth Trust Scotland · 21 May 2013

Ocean Youth Trust (OYT) Scotland is an award-winning voluntary organisation and youth work charity. For 25 years, we have been transforming the lives of disadvantaged young people through residential youth work voyages. To date, the Trust has supported more than 16,000 young people aged 12-25 from a range of backgrounds and circumstances across Scotland.

Story

As part of a crew of 12 Barclays colleagues from London, I will be taking part in ‘A sail of two Cities!  Racing a 75’ ocean going yachts (ex BT Global Challenge Race yacht – the famous ‘round the world the wrong way’ race series) against a team of our Barclays colleagues from Glasgow. The event takes place on the weekend of 7-9 of June. The teams will be racing identical yachts around the isle of Mull off the west Coast of Scotland. The two teams of novice sailors will not only be competing over the weekend, but we will be competing to see which team/location can raise the most money, so this will pit city verses city as well as being a matter of national pride! The boats are designed to be raced by a crew of 18 experienced sailors, so we will have our work cut out as the bulk of our crew are complete novices!

As a team we are delighted to be taking part, and if it proves successful we hope it will become an annual challenge event which we will use to support the great work of OYT.

HOW CAN YOU HELP ME?

For every pound donated we hope to get this matched by Barclays so please help!  If well supported each boat crew could raise well over £10,000.

Donating through justgiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with justgiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the OYT and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the OYT.

Given that my stomach drops just looking at a cruise boat in the Med, this may be an interesting experience!

Thanks for all your support!
