1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer. At Prostate Cancer UK, we’re giving every man the power to navigate it. With over £100 million invested in research, treatment, and care, we’re building a future where prostate cancer no longer cuts men’s lives short. Together, we can help save men’s lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After publicity in the media from Prostate Cancer UK and
celebrities like Stephen Fry and Bill Turnbull I went for  a PSA test and found out 12 months ago I had early stage Prostate Cancer. It was the biggest shock of my life but I was lucky that publicity had made me go to the Doctors. I had surgery to remove the prostate last September and the prognosis is good. Prostate Cancer UK do fantastic work in promoting awareness and are involved in helping research better tests for men. It is hoped in a few years there will be new test that is much more reliable than the current one. I am doing this walk to help promote awareness and raise funds.

I am also doing it in memory of my father who died of Bowel Cancer when he was only 55.

In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate
cancer at some point in their lives.

Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases as you get older

The average age for men to be diagnosed with prostate cancer is
between 65 and 69 years. If you are under 50, your risk of getting prostate cancer is very low. Men under 50 can get it, but it isn’t common.

More awareness can help others like myself get treated
earlier and save lives. Knowledge is power

Thank you
